199th Infantry Brigade Reactivated

On June 27, 2007, the 11th Infantry Regiment at Fort Benning , Georgia, will dual-flag as the 199th Infantry Brigade. Since the 11th is one of the oldest infantry units in the United States Army, they will retain a regimental flag but will have a brigade headquarters. Almost all of the remaining regiments in the Army are reflagging to brigades while the 11th and 29th here at Fort Benning are dual-flagging. While the troops will continue to wear the Infantry School ("Follow Me!") patch on their left shoulder, the 199th Infantry Brigade crest and flag will be worn and exhibited on post.

Four units are reflagging/dual-flagging to separate infantry brigades at Fort Benning (192nd, 197th, 198th, 199th). The 199th ceremony is planned at Fort Benning in front of the headquarters building in conjunction with COL Klingaman's change of command.

The 11th Infantry Regiment will continue with its current battalions, which
include the Maneuver Captains Career Course, Infantry Basic Officers Course III (IOBC), Officers Candidate School, 1-507th (Airborne) Infantry Parachute School, etc. Since the 199th BDE "only" fought in Vietnam, they were concerned they would not find many veterans willing to support the
re-activated unit. I believe they will be pleasantly surprised.
